162 Schools Served Notice on Fee Hike

A total of 162 private schools were served notice by the Education Department for unregulated fee hikes. There are nearly 54 schools from Hyderabad while the rest in neighboring Ranga Reddy district.

According to Education Department, about 15% to 30% profit is made by the institution with every fee hike in their schools. This is against the rule 8(4)(a) in GO (Government Order) Ms No. 01 that allows only 5%.

Additionally, 30% of these schools have not submitted NOC certificate from the Fire Departement and GHMC to run their premises in a safe manner adhering to occupational and health hazard norms.

The move was necessitated after the HSPA filed a petition against these 162 schools for making a killing by fee hike. There are nearly 30 reputed international schools in this list who were served with this notices from the DEO.

HPS Hikes School Fees

Hyderabad Public School has announced a hike in their fees for the upcoming academic year by 19% for HPS, Begumpet and 16% for HPS, Ramanthapur. The school finds it essential to hike the fees to meet the rising cost of staff salaries- the biggest overhead for any school. The salaries are bound north due to 7th Pay Commission.

The school remains one of the most prominent and prestigious in the twin cities for its rich heritage and academic excellence.

NCERT Published Books for CBSE

For all the parents saddled with the excess rate and weight of the privately published books for their wards, its now time to be glad. CBSE in a recent announcement has come out prescribing the schools to buy books only from the NCERT publishers. This does away with the practice of involving the private publishers.

A parent of the kindergarten student is forced to shell out nearly Rs3000 to Rs 5000 for the academic books. The rates have been so far monopolized by the schools in gloves with their private publishing partners.

Approximately, 1400 CBSE schools across the country have raised purchase indent with the NCERT for the books for the academic year of 2017-18. This amounts to nearly 32 lakh books for the students. CBSE has also made the decision to periodically review the textbooks of private publishers for its affiliated schools. CBSE is using the services of private publishers for faculty like Computer Science for which NCERT does not publish but depends on the recommended books by private publishers.

In a heartening move, few schools in Hyderabad known to charge exorbitant fees termed as one-time admission fees have slashed it immediately. A relief to parents, this has come after a long struggle owing to a group of parents (HSPA) filing cases and taking up morchas against the rampant culture.

Schools that have slashed fees include Meridian, Kalpa School in Banjara Hills, Manthan International School, Oakridge International School, Delhi Public School, Epitome Global School, Hyderabad Public School, Rockwell International School, Glendale Academy, Chaitanya Vidyalaya (Tank Bund).
